Legal pack
The Legal pack, in early access, takes your firm from intake through conflict check to an open matter in Jira, with a conflict search across every matter and matter walls built on Jira's own security.
Early access
This pack is in early access. It is installable and supported today, and it carries the "Early access" label in the catalogue and on its work items. We are finishing it with a design partner in early 2027, and everything you set up now carries straight into the generally available version.
Life sciences, government contractors and legal packs are early access.
Who it is for
Law firms and legal departments in business law and corporate legal operations, and consumer practices in estate planning, family law and consumer bankruptcy. Practice areas whose core data is health, criminal-record or immigration information (personal injury, medical malpractice, criminal defence, immigration, workers' compensation and disability) are outside what Rainbook may hold, so the pack doesn't cover them.
It installs whole on every Rainbook edition, the free tier and Jira Free. Matter walls need Jira Standard or above.
Intake, conflict check, matter
The pack adds three work types to your CRM space:
| Work type | Statuses |
|---|---|
| Intake | New, Screening, Conflict check, Pending engagement, Engaged, Declined |
| Conflict check | Requested, Searching, Review, Cleared, Cleared with waiver, Conflict – declined |
| Matter | Opening, Open, On hold, Closing, Closed |
The flow runs itself, with a person approving each step that matters:
- Moving an intake to Conflict check creates the conflict check, linked to the intake.
- An intake moves on to Pending engagement only when its conflict check is Cleared or Cleared with waiver.
- Engaged proposes the new matter, with practice area, client, parties, responsible lawyer and matter number carried across.
- Conflict – declined proposes declining the intake and creates a follow-up to send the non-engagement letter.
The client is the matter's account. Parties are your directory's organisations and people, each with a role on the matter (Client, Adverse party, Related party, Co-counsel, Opposing counsel or Witness), and their names and roles are also written to a plain Jira field so they read correctly after an uninstall.
Conflict search
A conflict check searches every name on the intake (the client, the parties and any aliases you enter) against every matter at your firm, walled matters included. It matches exact names, aliases, close spellings and parent companies, and ignores punctuation, accents and suffixes such as Inc, LLC and LLP.
For each hit on a matter you can open, you see the matched name and how strong the match is, the party's role, the matter, client, status and responsible lawyer. A hit on a walled matter you can't open shows as one line, "1 walled matter: ask the conflicts team", and the conflicts team gets an Inbox item to review it. A check never reads "No hits" while a conflict exists.
The search writes the result to the check and posts a hits table as a comment. Walled matters appear there only as a count, never by name.
Matter walls
On Jira Standard and above, anyone who can edit a matter can click Wall this matter. The matter moves behind a wall that only its Matter team can open, prefilled with the responsible lawyer, the originating lawyer and you, and you see "Walled · Undo". Email linked to the matter follows it behind the wall. Remove wall opens it again.
Two pack settings, both off to begin with:
- Wall new matters: every new matter starts behind its wall.
- Conflict checks for the conflicts team only: new conflict checks are opened only by your conflicts team and the person assigned.
The walls are Jira security levels, so Jira search, Rovo, dashboards and the mobile app respect them too. On Jira Free, which has no security levels, the pack installs everything except walls, and conflict search shows full results to everyone, since everyone on a Jira Free site can open every matter.
Fields
All native Jira fields: Practice area, Matter number, Responsible lawyer, Originating lawyer, Parties, Aliases, Referral source, Fee arrangement, Engagement letter, Conflict result, Waiver obtained, Client AI consent, Privileged notes, Conflict analysis and Fee estimate.
Client AI consent (Not asked, Given, Refused) shows on the record and in views, and Ask can filter on it, so you can follow your firm's policy on using AI with each client.
Views, metrics and rules
Saved views: Open intakes, Conflict checks in review, open matters by practice and Open matters without a signed engagement letter.
Metrics: Intake conversion, median days from intake to engagement, median conflict check time, new matters by practice and Originations by originating lawyer.
Client health weighs the trend in matters opened over 12 months, days since your last contact and intakes waiting more than 14 days.
Rules, all on when you install the pack: create the conflict check, propose the matter from an engaged intake, propose the decline with a non-engagement letter follow-up, remind the owner daily about an open matter whose engagement letter isn't signed after 7 days, and keep each matter's wall in step with its Matter team.
The intake summary gives you who, what kind of matter, the parties, urgency and the conflict status at a glance.
Coming with our design partner
Planned for the generally available version in early 2027: sound-alike name matching and wider corporate-family expansion in conflict search, a waiver workflow with document links, lateral-hire conflict import from CSV, an experience directory view and a Jira Service Management intake form for legal operations.
Get started
Install the pack from Settings › Packs and add the demo data to walk a fictional intake through to an open matter, including a seeded conflict. See Industry packs for how install, updates and removal work.
Teams that need controls beyond Jira's own permissions can add the optional Regulated pack.
